Speaking to mediapersons followin, Mr. Vittala said: “I do not have any links with naxalites.” When asked about the police having a photograph of him with a Maoist activist, Mr. Vittala said, “There are no photographs of me with any naxalite.” Mr. Vittala said the police targeted him as he was fighting against the displacement of tribal people from the forests. He said he would continue attending classes at the university when they begin on July 23.

Though Mr. Vittala was found smiling following the release, his father, Linganna, wore sombre look. He told The Hindu that the arrest and stay in the prison had caused a lot of distress.
