Mandya Karnataka 11_January_2015 : Miscreants set fire to a hut at Hosadadadahalli in K.R. Pet taluk of Mandya district on January 11, 2015

Some unidentified persons allegedly set fire to standing sugarcane crop and a hut in separate places in K.R. Pet taluk on Sunday.

While they burnt the crop at Ternena Halli in the afternoon, they set fire to the hut of an elderly woman Basammanni alias Nagamma (60), at Hosadadahalli near Akkihebbalu at around 11 a.m.

The entire crop belonging to H. Raje Gowda was completely burnt.

Meanwhile, residents of the village suspect that it was the handiwork of some miscreants. However, the police said the fire must have broken out owing to electric short circuit.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames.

In another incident, Basammanni suspected the role of land mafia behind setting her hut on fire.

Local people in both the villages demanded action against the miscreants, besides compensation for the losses.

The victims have filed complaints with the K.R. Pet Rural police station.
