Hubballi Marathon on smart city theme

Around 8,000 participants are expected to participate in the annual Hubballi Marathon-2015 to be held on October 18.

KLE Technological University, B.V. Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology, and Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation have jointly organised the event with the theme of ‘Smart City’.

Addressing presspersons here along with Registrar B.L. Desai, Vice-Chancellor of KLE Technological University Ashok Shettar said since the involvement of the public was required at every stage in the ‘Smart City’ scheme of the Union government, it has been chosen as the theme of this year’s marathon.

Prof. Shettar said the marathon would be a means of sensitising people on the topic.

He said the 14-km marathon would begin and conclude at the entrance of KLE Technological University after covering the thoroughfares of the city. The participants would have to pass through 11 check points.

There will be seven categories — Boys and Girls (Under 14 years), Men and Women (15 to 49 years), Senior citizens, Male and Female (above 50 years) and differently abled persons.

Each of the first three winners in boys, girls, men and women categories will get Rs. 10,000, Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 3,000 respectively, while there will be special prize of Rs. 10,000 each in the other three categories.

While the reporting time for the event is 5.30 a.m. on Sunday, the event will be flagged off at 6.15 a.m., Prof. Shettar said.
