The activities of the Karnataka Housing Board in Ballari district, which had come to almost to a stand still for the past several years, would resume from now on, S.G. Nanjayyanamath, chairman of the board, said here recently.
Mr. Nanjayyanamath was here to review the functioning of the board’s office. While admitting that the situation was owing to the negligence of all concerned, he said he would give a fillip to it make the functioning of the office effective.
To start with, a process had been set in motion to acquire land for projects such as the development of layouts and construction of houses in Ballari, Hosapete and Kampli, which had been languishing for long. The board, in its meeting held recently, had approved these projects and released funds.
“The board will enter into an agreement with the land owner to develop layouts under 60:40 scheme. Of the total sites in the developed layouts, 40 percent will be given to the land owner. Wherever the scheme did not work, the board will acquire the land by paying compensation and develop the layouts,” he said.
To a question, he said that 10,836 applications were pending with the board’s office in Ballari and now works would be taken up to prepare the layouts. “A minimum of one year is needed to complete the works and allot the sites/houses to the applicants,” he said. He said that efforts were on to distribute the ‘pattas’ to the residents of Beedi Workers Colony within three months.
