Houses, tractors burnt after murder of GP poll candidate

Gram Panchayat elections took a violent turn in Kolar with a number of houses and vehicles being damaged as a backlash to the killing of a candidate.

Following Thursday night’s gruesome murder of Subramani, a candidate from Balla Gram Panchayat, an irate mob burnt five houses and two tractors in the village in Mulbagal taluk on Friday.

The houses were said to belong to the political rivals of the deceased man. He was reportedly murdered by a group of assailants on Thursday night in view of an old enmity.

Central Range Inspector General of Police Arun Chakravarthy visited the village to take stock of the situation.

Tight security arrangements were made in view of tension in the area.
