A 37-year-old history-sheeter was hacked to death allegedly by members of his rival gang in Bellale village of Pandavapura taluk in the district on Thursday evening.

The deceased, Krishna alias Tsunami Krishna, was watching a television show at a house in the Irrigation Department’s quarters, when the men, who came in a multi-utility vehicle, attacked him.

“The murder could be a fallout of an rivalry with another history-sheeter,” Geetha Prasanna, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Srirangapatna subdivision), told The Hindu .

The deceased was an accused in a murder and a few criminal cases. He was recently released on bail. A special team had been formed to trace the assailants, Ms. Prasanna said.

The Melkote police have registered a case under section 143, 147, 148, 149 and 302 and Indian Penal Code.
