Hiremath favours Hegde to head SPV

December 26, 2012 11:03 am | Updated 11:05 am IST - BELLARY:

S.R. Hiremath, founder-president of Samaj Parivarthan Samudaya and petitioner in the Supreme Court against illegal mining, has favoured that people such as the former Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde should head a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to be constituted for monitoring and implementation of the Comprehensive Environment Management Plan (CEMP) in mining impact zones.

Responding to questions from presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Hiremath said that the SPV should be vested with all the powers to implement the CEMP properly and more effectively. “Instead of making the Chief Secretary the head of the SPV, I prefer Mr. Santosh Hegde for the post to help ensure the effective implementation of the CEMP,” he said.
