Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa will chair the meeting to initiate Dasara preparations

The Dasara High-Powered Committee meeting, to be chaired by the Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, will be held on August 9 in Bengaluru.

This was stated by the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar via a communiqué released to the media on Sunday. The meeting is scheduled to take place at Vidhana Soudha at noon, he added.

The Dasara High-Powered Committee meeting sets the ball rolling for the preparations for the Nada Habba. It is normally held about three months before the inauguration of the festival that takes place during September/October. This also empowers the Dasara Executive Committee in charge of the actual preparations to go ahead with the arrangements all of which take around two months to complete.

The various sub-committees too are constituted only after the Chief Minister chairs the high powered committee meeting and gives the green signal to initiate the preparatory works.

However, this year, in view of the unstable political situation in the State, the meeting was not convened and concerns were raised over the delay in the preparation. But with the Chief Minister agreeing to chair the meeting on Friday, the situation has eased considerably for the local authorities.

It is the high powered committee which announces the budget and releases the funds to meet the festival expenditure. However, it will be a race against time to complete all the preparations.

Normally, the first batch of around six Dasara elephants are brought to Mysuru from various jungle camps in the first week of August so that they get acclimatised to the urban environment. However, the dates were not finalised owing to political uncertainty. After the meeting on Friday, preparations are expected to gather steam.
