Kagodu Thimappa, Revenue Minister, inaugurating the new taluk at Hebri in Udupi district on Saturday.

Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa inaugurated the new Hebri taluk here on Saturday. This is the fourth new taluk in the district. He had inaugurated three new taluks – Byndoor, Brahmavara and Kaup in the district on February 14

With the new Hebri taluk, there are now seven taluks in the district. Till February 14, there were just three taluks – Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala. As Mr. Thimmappa inaugurated the new taluk office at the old CHC building here, people celebrated it by bursting crackers here. There was demand for taluk headquarters at Hebri for the last five decades. This new taluk will have 16 gram panchayats under it.

Mr. Thimmappa said that the government would provide tahsildars and staff to all 50 new taluks announced by it. It was essential to provide basic infrastructure to the new taluks. He has already directed Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district, Priyanka Mary Francis, to submit proposals immediately for the construction of mini Vidhana Soudhas for all the four new taluks, the construction of each would require a minimum of ₹5 crore. He directed the officials of the Revenue Department to dispose the land regularisation applications expeditiously.

Mr. Thimmappa lauded former Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily for his consistent effort in aiding the formation of the Hebri taluk.

Mr. Moily said that the nearby Perdoor town should have been included in the new Hebri taluk. The people of Perdoor and its surrounding villages had approached him with this demand. But this required the concurrence of the MLAs of Udupi, Kaup and Kundapur. This matter would be taken up after the Assembly elections, he said.

V. Sunil Kumar, Karkala MLA, Sudhakar, president, Hebri Gram Panchayat, and others were present.
