Heavy rains continue to lash many parts of Chikkamagaluru, throwing normal life out of gear.

The district administration has declared holiday for schools in Sringeri, Mudigere, Koppa and N.R. Pura taluks of the district.

Many parts of Sringeri town and the Sharada Peetha premises are inundated following heavy rains throughout the night on Wednesday. The parking yard, one of the dining halls and the road leading to Narasimha Vana on the Sharada Peetha premises are flooded. Devotees who visited the temple had a tough time.

Many houses in the low-lying areas are flooded and the residents have been forced to remain indoors. Many residents are busy shifting bags of areca-nut and other agriculture products kept in their houses.

As per the records from Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Cell, 68.5 mm of rainfall was recorded in Sringeri at 6.15 a.m. on Thursday.

The overflowing Tunga has cut the road connectivity between Sringeri and Karkala. Superintendent of Police K. Annamalai told The Hindu , “The road is in a low-lying area.
