H.S. Anil Kumar, president, Hassan City Municipal Council (CMC), visited Hosakoplu village where a tank had been polluted allegedly by untreated effluent released from industries nearby, on Monday.

Mr. Kumar and his engineering staff visited the tank and spoke to the villagers. “The people said that Sahyadri Sugars and Distilleries nearby has been releasing effluent into the waterbody. The CMC will take action once the analysis of the samples is complete,” he said.

The Hassan district office of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board collected samples from the tank and the company. B. Rajesh, Environment Officer, said, “We received a complaint on August 30 and collected the samples the next day. The company is running a bottling unit in the area.”
