Members of the district unit of the Karnataka State Government Degree College Guest Lecturers’ Coordination Committee, will be meeting All-India Congress president Rahul Gandhi to urge him to take up their issue with the State government and get them enhancement of honorarium and job security among other things.
Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, T. Durgappa, president of the district unit of the committee, said that a memorandum would be submitted to Mr. Gandhi highlighting the plight of the guest lecturers.
There are over 13,000 guest lecturers in the State. This number has remained unchanged owing to a lack of positive response from the State government.
According to Mr. Durgappa, guest lecturers have been playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of the students, all while remaining a neglected lot with the State government not responding to their long pending demands.
As a result, they are finding it difficult to feed their families with the ‘paltry’ honorarium given to them.
“We would also remind Dr. Gandhi about his concern expressed after meeting guest lecturers in Gujarat and also expressing his helplessness as ‘his party government (Congress) was not in power’. Here, the Congress is in power and we urge him to issue suitable directions to the Chief Minister to resolve the issues concerning guest lecturers, by regularising their services as had been done in the case of contract/outsource workers in urban local bodies Morarjee Desai School, Panchayat Raj institutions,” he said.
