GST course at Rani Channamma University

Rani Channamma University will become the first higher education institution in the state to introduce a course on Goods and Service Tax in the curriculum from this academic year.

Students of the fifth and sixth semester of B.Com soure will study all about GST from this year itself, said H.Y. Kamble, head of the department.

“Students will not only attend theory classes, but will also get to solve practical problems. They will be given case studies taken from real companies and firms, and asked to come up with solutions to their problems.”

Apart from training its teachers, the university will also use the services of working professionals, such as tax practitioners, chartered accountants and lawyers.

“We are probably among the first in the country to start a course on GST. We have already prepared the curriculum for students and training manual for teachers. Around 15,000 students in Belagavi, Bagalkot and Vijaypura will benefit from this,” Siddu Alagur, registrar (academic), RCU, told The Hindu.

Mr. Kamble said the varsity hoped to make students “job ready”. “GST is here to stay and you need to be updated about this if you are looking for a job or if you want to be an entrepreneur. Classes will start in July,” he said and added that the varsity had held a series of workshops before preparing the study material.

Details of the course, including the study material, are available on the university website - http://rcub.ac.in.
