GP staff demand pending salary

June 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - Hassan:

The employees of Adaguru Gram Panchayat in Belur taluk on Friday staged a protest in front of the panchayat office demanding salary that was pending for six months.

Nine employees working in the panchayat have not got the salary for six months, according to sources.

The employees alleged that Panchayat Development Officer Krishnappa Pujari had diverted about Rs. 4 lakh, which was meant for the distribution of salary among employees.

In spite of repeated appeals during the last six months, the official had not released the pending salaries. Dharmesh, president of the district unit of the Karnataka State Gram Panchayat Employees Association, who led the protest, urged the senior officials of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department to release the salary immediately and take appropriate action against those responsible for diverting the funds.
