Elections held on Tuesday for 120 Gram Panchayats in Yadgir district was peaceful except a few incidents.

As many as 4,417 candidate were contesting for 1,864 seats in three taluks in the district and people in rural area, particularly women voters, were seen queuing at large to vote.

CLASH

At least five people were injured in a clash in Naikal village, about 10 kilometer from here in Shahapur taluk for election-related reasons. Police controlled the situation.

Superintend of Police Vinayaka Patil said that additional police forces have been sent to Naikal village and the situation is now under control. Police are verifying facts which may have led to the clash between the groups but no complaint has been registered yet. No arrests have made yet, he added.

The injured have been admitted to District General Hospital and condition of the admitted is stated to be out of danger.

WRONG PRINT

In another incident, there was a confusion in Ward No. 1 in Chepetla village of Yadgir taluk when the candidate's symbol was found wrongly printed in form No. 10. Therefore, District Administration has ordered for re-polling. The total votes in the particular ward was 918.

“I have already sent a report to the election commission in this regard and ordered for re-poll on June 4, Manoj Jain, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer has told The Hindu over phone.

TURNOUT

According to the sources of respective Tahasildar's offices, Yadgir taluk saw a turnout of 50 per cent at 1 p.m. followed by 50 per cent in Shahapur taluk at 3 p.m. and 68.40 per cent in Surpur taluk at 3 p.m.

The overall district turnout at 1 p.m. was 50 per cent it was expected to be touched up to 70- 72 percentage in the district.
