GP polls: display of party flags banned

May 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - Hassan:

The State Election Commission has banned display of flags of political parties, banners and all political party-based programmes during the gram panchayat polls.

Political leaders are barred from identifying any candidate as their supporter or seek votes in his or her favour, said a press release issued by Deputy Commissioner Umesh H. Kusugal.

The contestants should distribute pamphlets carrying either names or photos of political leaders or symbols of any political party. The Election Commission has restricted the political parties from holding public meetings under the party banner and seek votes.

Any violation of the poll code of conduct would be dealt with seriously and publicity materials would be seized, he said.

The district administration is hiring 253 Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses, 141 four-wheelers and 52 mini buses for smooth conduct of elections on May 29.
