Gowda wants pending schemes completed before mastakabhisheka

June 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - Hassan:

Janata Dal (Secular) supremo and MP H.D. Deve Gowda has said that he will put pressure on the State and Union governments to get all the pending works completed before the next Mahamastakabhisheka of Bahubali at Shravanabelagola, scheduled to be held in February 2018.

He was speaking at a preliminary meeting convened by Charukeerti Bhattaraka Swami of the Jain Mutt at Shravanabelagola on Thursday.

“I am hopeful that the railway line connecting Bengaluru and Hassan will be completed in a year. It is unfortunate that the project has been delayed for so long as it was originally conceived in 1996,” he said.

Further, Mr. Gowda said he was hopeful of getting two trains connecting Bengaluru-Hassan-Arsikere-Mumbai or Jaipur sanctioned in the coming days. “I wish these two express trains are named after Bahubali and Chavundaraya, who installed the 57-ft monolithic idol at Shravanabelagola,” Mr. Gowda said.

Referring to the airport project, he said the project should have been completed by now.

He had laid the foundation stone for the project during the BJP-Janata Dal (S) coalition government. “Those who came to power later on did not evince any interest to execute the project,” he said.

Charukeerti Bhattaraka Swami said, thousands of devotees from across the world would witness the Mahamastakabhisheka, held once in 12 years.

I hope railway line connecting Hassan and Bengaluru will be completed in a year’s time:
