May 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - Vijayapura:

Government schools, especially those in rural areas in the district, have continued to do better in SSLC exams in comparison to aided schools. According to statistics, some 46 schools have secured 100 per cent result, of them 17 are government school, and all of them belong to rural areas.

Some 26 private unaided school have achieved cent per cent result, while only three government aided schools have secured hundred per cent result.

Only eight government schools have secured less than 40 per cent result, while 17 aided schools have secured less than 40 per cent result.

“Private aided schools have their own management and their functions are also monitored by government, yet, the aided schools have not done better compared to government and unaided schools. The result is a clear indicator that government and unaided school have done fairly as compared to aided schools,” said S.S. Biradar, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Department.

Steps to improve

Meanwhile, with an objective of improving the SSLC pass percentage for the next academic year, the Department of Public Instruction, has decided to launch a novel initiative for June this year. Mr. Biradar said that students’ diagnostics test for nearly 30,000 SSLC students would be conducted, where they would be asked to write a test of all subjects with each subject carrying 25 marks.

“After the result, we will assess which student is lagging in which subject. Based on that, the teachers of respective subjects would be asked to conduct extra classes for the students to bridge the gap,” he said. Mr. Biradar said that the department would not seek any additional funds from the government for the purpose.

Poor performance

Three unaided schools in the district have achieved zero per cent result in SSLC exams. Deputy Director, Public Instruction Department, S.S. Biradar said that the department would issue notice and would talk to the management about the poor performance.

“First, we will see whether there is any room for improvement or not. Secondly, we will see whether the schools have adequate infrastructure or not. In case the school did not meet the criteria on infrastructure, we will cancel their approval itself,” he said
