‘Govt. is caught in a bind’

May 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - KALABURAGI:

Senior BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai said that the opposition to the amendment of the Land Acquisition Act has resulted in the failure of the State government to increase the height of Almatti balancing reservoir.

“The State government is caught in a bind now. It is not in a position to acquire the required land in the submersion area.

“Without the acquisition of this land, they cannot raise the height of the dam and utilise the share of the State as notified by the Krishna River Water Disputes Tribunal,” he said.

Rehabilitation

Talking to The Hindu , Mr. Bommai said that it has also resulted in the State government not taking any steps towards taking up rehabilitation and resettlement work in the submersion area.
