Stating that the State government is committed to improve infrastructure facilities at government hospitals, Health and Family Welfare Minister K.R. Ramesh Kumar on Friday said that the recently tabled Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (Amendment) Bill, 2017, was not meant to control private medical practitioners. He was speaking to mediapersons here during his private visit to a private hospital.
The Minister said he was satisfied as the Bill was tabled in the Belagavi session and thanked the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for supporting to improve the healthcare sector.
The Bill was drafted after holding discussions with delegates of doctors’ associations. Recently tabled, it envisages transparency in the display of rates at private hospitals and other medical establishments. It will also prevent financial exploitation of patients and incidents that involve medical negligence.
Measures to procure medical equipments, through tenders, are in progress. They would be installed in government hospitals by the end of December, he said.
