Government’s appeasement politics blamed for lull in road works

January 10, 2019 01:29 am | Updated 01:29 am IST - HUBBALLI

The former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has said that the road works taken up using the Central Road Fund (CRF) and work on a patch of the BRTS corridor have been halted due to appeasement politics of the State government.

Muslim religious structures such as mosque and dargah have encroached upon road space but the city and district administration are not taking steps to remove them to facilitate the road works.

Work to widen the old highway approaching the Rani Chennamma Circle from Bankapur Chowk and works under CRF to reconstruct the road between Kamaripeth Police Station and Unkal Cross have been stopped as encroachment by a mosque and dargahs were not yet removed.

Even a stretch of BRTS corridor has not been taken up as a dargah was not removed though compensation has already been paid, Mr. Shettar said and added that the BJP will launch an agitation if these encroachments are not removed within 10 days.
