An initiative has been launched to revamp government-run employment exchanges in the State to provide comprehensive employment services to job seekers.

The Department of Industrial Training and Employment (DITE), with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP’s) Disha Project and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is working with the objective of enabling unemployed youth to acquire necessary skills for employment and livelihood.

In this connection, all 29 employment exchanges in the State will be equipped with Youth Employability Service (YES) centres. A brainstorming session and a collaborative workshop was organised with stakeholders and others to take the initiative forward and make it effective, reaching out to the unemployed.

Strategies to evolve a thriving employment exchange; the role of stakeholders in making the exchange work – government, private sector, NGOs, VTPs, etc., and designing the new employment platform – YES Centre were discussed. Participants from Mysuru, Mandya, Kodagu, Hassan and Chamarajnagar districts attended the workshop.

Recommendations were put forth. This is the second such workshop on YES organised here after one in Bengaluru. This will be taken further to Mangaluru, Hubballi and Raichur.

Shivayogi Ballolli, Project Manager, YES Project Management Unit, said the initiative was not only to facilitate jobs in the government sector but also in private sector. Besides attending to job seekers coming to the centres (walk-ins) the focus would also be to reach out to aspirants in colleges and the conducting of counselling sessions and interactions, he said, adding that a strong network with industries would be established to ensure jobs with the CII on board. “We can reach out better to the employers as CII has teamed with the initiative,” he added.

Mr. Ballolli said the idea of holding workshops was to build solutions, elicit opinions from stakeholders, and put up a strong platform for job aspirants.

The logo of YES Kendra was also launched on the occasion.
