Government directive on income certificate opposed

Opposing the State government’s recent directive on compulsory submission of income certificate to obtain below the poverty line (BPL) ration cards, Bangalore City and Urban District Congress committees urged the government to first set right anomalies in issuing the income certificate.

After submitting a memorandum addressed to the government through the Bangalore Urban Deputy Commissioner, party leaders Dinesh Gundu Rao and S.T. Somashekhar said fixing Rs. 17,000 a year as the upper limit of income in urban areas to obtain BPL ration card was unscientific.
