The three-day annual fair of Sri Gavisiddeshwar, organised by Sri Gavimutt in Koppal, will be held as usual from Tuesday.

The car festival would be held after paying tribute to centenarian Sri Shivakumar Swami of Siddaganga Mutt, who passed away on Monday, and condoling his death, a press release from Gavimutt said.

The annual fair is one of the biggest in North Karnataka. Tens of thousands of devotees are expected to participate in it.

Mark of respect

A minute silence would be observed before commencing rituals as a mark of respect to the departed soul, who was considered ‘Nadedaduva Devaru’ (walking God).

The mutt has also cancelled entertainment programmes scheduled for the day.

Gavimutt also recalled that Shivakumar Swami had laid the foundation stone for a free hostel, with lodging and boarding facilities for around 2,000 students, to be constructed by the Gavimutt, in July 2005, and had also inaugurated facilities for 1,000 students in the following year.

Meanwhile, Karadi Sanganna, MP, Koppal, condoled the death of Shivakumar Swami.
