Gauri Lankesh murder: SIT intensifies manhunt for Naveen’s associates

He supplied arms and helped make contact with the underworld: Officials

The Special Investigation Team probing into the murder of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh has intensified the search for associates of K.T. Naveen Kumar, who was taken into custody on Friday.

Inquiries so far have revealed that Naveen had contacts with many fringe right-wing groups and also gun dealers in north India. He was instrumental in supplying arms and ammunition to his sources and to establish contacts in the underworld based in Mangaluru, a senior police officer said.

“Naveen might throw light on gangs and organisations that possesses illegal arms and their training and help us get information about Gauri’s killers,” the official added.

Meanwhile, SIT officials are interrogating Naveen and analysing his call record details for more information. “The call record details will help SIT get digital footprints of his whereabouts before and after Gauri’s murder. This is very crucial in the case,” the official said.

Naveen, a realtor from Maddur, was initially taken into custody by officials of the Organised Crime Wing of CCB while he was waiting at the Kempegowda bus terminus to hand over 15 rounds of ammunition to his contacts on February 18.
