A tanker transporting liquefied petroleum gas overturned at Maroli on the Nanthoor-Padil Bypass Road in the city on Saturday afternoon, affecting traffic movement.

Immediately, the gas in the tanker started to leak. Police who rushed to the spot diverted the Bengaluru and Mysuru-bound traffic via Pumpwell Junction.

Personnel from Indane gas company to which the tanker belongs are trying to plug the leakage. They are bringing an empty vehicle to transfer the leaking gas. An emergency rescue vehicle of an oil company is also at the spot.

The tanker was heading from Mangaluru towards Bantwal. Its driver lost control while negotiating a curve, police said.

Passerby informed police, who immediately rushed to the spot with fire tenders from Kadri, Pandeshwar and Bantwal fire stations.
