Ganja plants worth Rs. 3 lakh seized

Officials of the Department of Excise have arrested a person on the charge of illegally cultivating ganja plant, along with maize and cotton in his farmland at Melina Kunchenahalli tanda village, near here. Name of the arrested has been given as Ganga Naik, a resident of the same village. The police have seized 360 ganja plants, worth about Rs. 3 lakh. Haala Naik, resident of the village, who is accused of assisting the arrested in the cultivation of ganja plants, is said to be absconding.

In Mandya

The Mandya subdivision police personnel have destroyed several ganja plants cultivated in sugarcane fields at different places in Belur village of the taluk.

Following a tip off, Deputy Superintendent of Police T.J. Udesha-led team raided several fields on Wednesday and destroyed the ganja plants worth Rs. 3 lakh cultivated in farmlands belonging to Sannamma and Shankara Bachekalappa, a senior police official told The Hindu. The accused were booked under the relevant Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act – 1985 and the Indian Penal Code, he said.The two accused were absconding, the police said.
