Gang breaks into temple, decamps with cash, ornaments

A gang of persons broke into Sri Rajady Rakteshwari Temple and made off with silver items and cash, at Tallur village coming under Kundapur police station limits.

According to the police, they broke into the sanctum sanctorum of the temple between 6.30 p.m. on Sunday and 5.45 a.m. on Monday. They decamped with silver items weighing 300 g and a necklace used for the goddess.

They also stole Rs. 1,500 kept in the ‘hundi’ or collection box. The total value of items stolen, including the cash, has been estimated at Rs. 21,000.

There was no CCTV camera or alarm system in the temple. The police have found a sickle used for breaking open the door.

The police suspect that the theft might be the job of local persons. A case has been registered.
