Gandhi Jayanti in Belagavi is celebrated in a unique manner as this was the only city in which M.K. Gandhi chaired a conference of the Indian National Congress. It is also the only place in Karnataka after Bengaluru that he visited twice, and stayed for a total of two weeks.

Mayor Sanjyot Bandekar and zilla panchayat president Asha Aiholi paid floral tributes to the Mahatma in the morning. A bhajan performance was organised at Veera Soudha, a hall built in memory of Gandhi at the place he stayed during his visit in 1924.

Suresh Itnal, Additional Deputy Commissioner, called upon the youth to imbibe the principles of truth and non-violence preached and practised by Gandhi.

Young children presented a play on Ramayana on the occasion. Gandhi Jayanti was also celebrated in Khadi Gram Udyoga Sangha in Hudli and 17 other towns and villages that have khadi cottage industries and outlets.
