Gadag police launch hunt to nab Dingaleshwar Swami

The seer is the main accused in a complaint filed after a man died in a group clash

Sri Dingaleshwar Swami, seer of Balehosur Mutt in Shirahatti taluk of Gadag district, who was in the limelight during the Moorusavir Mutt succession row, is again in the news over a criminal case. The Gadag Police have launched a hunt to nab him.

The case pertains to the alleged group clash in Balehosur village after the gram panchayat elections. In the group clash on June 7, Mahanthappa Hanumanthapa Gudageri (60) was seriously injured and he finally breathed his last at a private hospital in Hubballi on June 17.

Since then, the situation in the village has been volatile. So far, the police have arrested 26 persons in connection with the complaint and counter complaint pertaining to the incident.

Yet to be traced

Sri Dingaleshwar Swami has been named as the main accused in the complaint filed by the relatives of Gudageri. They said that the attack was carried out at the behest of the swami. The swami has been on the run since the death of Gudageri and is yet to be traced.

“There is already a warrant against the swami in an earlier case. We tried to trace him based on his call records. However, he has switched off his cell phone and has remained untraceable so far,” Superintendent of Police of Gadag K.T. Balakrishna told The Hindu .

He said that the swami’s cell phone indicated that he was in Balehosur on the day of the group clash.
