Mysuru City Corporation, in its resolve to promote tourism, has been funding those who wish to buy Sarots — the spoke-wheeled horse-drawn carts. The corporation funds 50 per cent of the total cost of the carts and facilitates loan from banks for the remaining amount.

“The scheme still exists,” Mayor R. Lingappa told The Hindu . The beneficiaries, however, would be chosen among tongawallahs registered with the Department of Tourism.

The MCC had funded about 10 Sarots a few years ago and they are in operation here.
