Four members of a family including a woman were washed away in heavy current of the Narayanpur Left Bank Canal (NLBC) of the Upper Krishna Project near Marnal-Jogundabavi village in Surpur taluk in Yadgir on Tuesday when the tractor, in which they were travelling, tumbled into the canal while taking a reverse turn.

According to the reports reaching the district headquarters on Tuesday, the persons who have been washed away in the canal are identified as Gaddemma (31), Kalinga (12), Manjunath (07) and Sharanappa (28) from Ennivadagera village in Surpur taluk.

The police personnel have reached the spot and the expert swimmers from the Fire and Emergency Service department were yet to reach the spot to take up the search operations. Meanwhile the Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigama Ltd (KBJNL) has suspended the release of water into the canal from the Narayanpur Dam to enable the swimmers to take up the search operations without problems. The tractor was completely submerged in the canal.
