Four videos of the alleged incident, recorded on mobile phones, emerged on Monday. They clearly show the local BJP leader and his associates threatening to skin the law student, in the presence of police, outside the restaurant on Residency Road on Saturday.

R.V. Ramesh Yadav, the local BJP leader, justified his actions while speaking to The Hindu on Monday. He claimed that he intervened and got his friend to withdraw his complaint after Matthew Gordon submitted an apology letter at the Ashok Nagar Police Station.

Meanwhile, DCP (Central) Sandeep Patil said that though Mr. Gordon had not lodged a complaint, they have taken up an inquiry into the incident. “If we find that the complainants had heckled Mr. Gordon, we will take action against them. We have collected CCTV footage from the restaurant,” he said.
