Four persons have been arrested on the charge of murdering a teacher in Tumkur city last month.

Superintendent of Police Raman Gupta told presspersons here on Saturday that Chandra (25), Durga (25), Anjanamurthy (20) and Srinivas (28), all hamalis and residents of N.R. Colony here, killed Anusuyamma (55) for gain.

The police are on the lookout for another accused.

Anusuyamma was an English teacher in the Government High School at Durgadahalli in Tumkur district. The five accused barged into her house on the night of November 10 as soon as she came home from a temple and repeatedly stabbed her in the neck with a knife. They took away her gold chain worth Rs. 70,000 and her mobile phone. Anusuyamma used to live alone in the house and used to lend money on interest. The accused had thought that she might have kept a large amount of money in the house and planned to loot her, Mr. Gupta said.
