Former Minister Chinchansur to join BJP

Senior Congress leader and former Minister Baburao Chinchansur will join the BJP on Wednesday under the leadership of B.S. Yeddyurappa, State unit president of the party.

While speaking to The Hindu over phone from New Delhi, Mr. Chinchansur said that the Koli, Kabbaliga community has been sidelined by the Congress for the past seven decades, which is why he decided to quit the party,The Congress neglected the community and because of it, its leaders worked against me in the recent Assembly elections,” he added.

Mr. Chinchansur was elected in 2008 and 2013 from Gurmitkal constituency and became Textile Minister in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s Cabinet. But he lost in the 2018 Assembly elections by a margin of nearly 25,000.

He also said that he is joining the BJP with a dream to bring the Koli Kabbaliga community the ST tag and to serve the people of Gurmitkal constituency.
