The All India Congress Committee secretary in-charge of Karnataka (Belagavi division) Manickam Tagore on Thursday said that steps are being taken to strengthen the party from the grass roots in the run-up to next year’s Assembly polls in the State.
Mr. Tagore, who is touring the districts in Belagavi division, conducted a discussion with party leaders here on Wednesday.
Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Tagore said that he had taken part in an introductory meeting with the leaders and the discussions revolved around the internal issues concerning the party. He, however, clarified that there was no big issue and only petty differences, which were being sorted out. He said that the focus of Congress strategy in the run-up to the Assembly polls will be strengthening of the party at booth, taluk, and district levels.
After his meetings with the party leaders in various districts and similar discussions by three other other AICC secretaries in the State, there will be a meeting with the Chief Minister and KPCC President in Bengaluru on May 22.
The meeting will deliberate on the poll strategy for the upcoming elections, he said.
On the issue of appointing a new KPCC president, he made it clear that the party high command will take a final decision on the matter.
