The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services has aimed to vaccinate at least 80,000 cattle in the taluk during the 22-day special drive against Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD).
M. Srinivas, Mandya MLA, inaugurated the drive at Marilingana Doddi, Mandya taluk, on Monday.
Addressing the gathering, he said that the department has been taking up intensive measures to tackle the FMD. The farmers should approach the veterinary clinics/hospitals to save their cattle by administering vaccines against the deadly disease, he said.
Special teams - comprising veterinary assistant surgeons, livestock inspectors and animal husbandry assistants - have been formed to conduct the camps across the taluk.
Praveenkumar, Assistant Director of Animal Husbandry, and Mandya Milk Union Ltd. (MANMUL) officials were present.
