The body of farmer Fakirappa Dollin, who was washed away in flash floods at Morab village of Navalgund taluk, could not be traced till Tuesday.

Navalgund tahsildar Naveen Hullur told The Hindu that the search operation involving police personnel, officials and the farmers did not yield results till Tuesday evening. “The search for the body is on in areas along the course of the Bannihalla and Tuprihall streams since Sunday. On Tuesday, we reached till the tail-end of the Bannihalla stream and even searched the bushes in the area as there is a chance of the body getting trapped there. However, our efforts did not yield results,” he said.

Mr. Hullur said that they searched Shirakol village too where the both the streams join and merge with the Bennihalla rivulet. From that point, the force of the water increases too. If the body has moved further from this point, the chances of recovery are less.

“In a similar incident in 2009, the body of a farmer who was washed away in floods in the same stream was never traced,” he said.

Torrential rain has affected life in the taluk. Several villages remained cut off from other areas as the bridges are damaged and roads are washed away. The road between Hanasi and Shirakol has been completely damaged and the bridge across this road had broke down, Mr. Hullur said.
