Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (original faction) has urged the Union government to fix the fair and remunerative price (FRP) for sugarcane for the 2019–20 crushing season at ₹3,300 a tonne.

Addressing the presspersons here on Wednesday, sangha leaders said sugarcane growers across the State were facing several issues and the Centre had not taken any measures to solve these problems.

The growers are facing severe financial constraints following the failure of the Centre to hike the FRP and also owing to the increasing production costs, said Borapura Shankare Gowda, president of the sangha.

Sugarcane grown on several hundreds of hectares, falling under the cultivation areas of the State-owned Mysore Sugar Company Ltd. (Mysugar) in the town and cooperative sugar mill Pandavapura Sahakari Sakkare Karkhane (PSSK) at Pandavapura, have been withering as the State government had not taken any measures to revive the two defunct mills, he said.

The State government was also urged to establish paddy procurement centres across the district and to supply fertilizer to help farmers.

Induvalu Chandrashekar, Manjesh, Induvalu Basavaraj, S.S. Prakash, and Nagendraswamy were among those present.
