Minister for Health and Family Welfare U.T. Khader said that five new laboratories to test H1N1 would be established in the State.
He made the announcement after inaugurating a jatha against tobacco use at the Town Hall circle here on Saturday.
He said lab technicians and necessary equipment have been provided in the 2,353 Primary Health Centers across the State for testing malaria and chikungunya.
Platelets would be provided by the government to patients suffering from dengue on a request to the Health
Department.
He added that the department was creating awareness among people to keep their surroundings clean to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.
Addressing the participants of the jatha at Mahatma Gandhi stadium in the city, Director of Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bengaluru, K.B. Lingegowda said that 18,000 new patients come every year to Kidwai, out of which 40 percent suffered from cancers related to tobacco use.
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs T.B. Jaychandra, Rafiq Ahmed, MLA, and other district-level officers were present.
