Five killed in lightning strike in Kalaburagi, Yadgir

Four persons, including a teenaged girl, were killed on the spot after being struck by lightning at three places in Kalaburagi and Yadgir districts on Sunday.

While three persons were killed in two places in Kalaburagi district, the other was killed in Yadgir district.

The police said that Basavaraj (25) and his sister Ragini (16) were killed on the spot after being struck by lightning when they were working in an agriculture field at Haliyal village in Afsalpur.

Sharanagouda Police Patil (58) died on the spot at Kondugoli village in Jewargi taluk as he was taking shelter under a shed in his agriculture field when lightning struck.

In Mundargi village in Yadgir taluk, Hanumanth Lingappa (19), who was working in an agriculture field, died on the spot after being struck by lightning.

Widespread rain

Kalaburagi and Yadgir districts are experiencing moderate to heavy and widespread rainfall for the past 36 hours.

26 goats killed

Ravikumar Naraboli reports from Yadgir:

A man and 26 goats died in two incidents of lightning strike in Yadgir taluk on Saturday evening. The name of the man was given as Jesuraj (22) of Allipur village.

In the other incident, 26 goats that were grazing in fields died after a lightning strike in Empad tanda.

The goats that died belonged to Harya and Seethya, who escaped unhurt.
