Five houses damaged in rain

As many as five houses were damaged due to rain accompanied by winds in Udupi district on Wednesday. According to the information provided by the Karkala Taluk Office, the house of Pandu Nayak was damaged when a tree fell on it. The loss due to the damage had been estimated at Rs. 50,000. The house of Babu M. was damaged due to rain at Jodukatte.

The loss had been estimated at Rs. 7,000, while the house of Krishnappa Poojary too was damaged and the loss was estimated at Rs. 8,000.

As per the information provided by the Udupi Taluk Office, a wall of Ammanni’s house collapsed due to the rain in Athrady village and the loss had been estimated at Rs. 85,000. According to the information provided by the District Control Room at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Udupi received a rainfall of 25.6 mm in the last 24 hours ending at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Department of Ports and Fisheries has been putting boulders to check sea erosion in places such as Kodibengre, Mannur-Padukere, Udyavara-Padukere and Muloor-Thottam in the district.
