Five held on murder charge

The police on Sunday arrested five persons on the charge of being involved in the murder of Venkatesh, a mobile currency re-charge shop owner here.

Earlier, a group of armed youths had murdered Venkatesh at Hosamane locality here on Tuesday last.

M. Nanjundaswamy, Inspector-General of Police (Eastern range), told presspersons here on Monday that Lokesh, Deepak, Muniswamy, Naveen and Nithin had been arrested by the Shivamogga police for the railway station at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday for their alleged involvement in the crime.

He said, the victim was one of the accused in a case of murder of Tulasiram, brother of Lokesh, one of the arrested persons, that took place in 2010.

To avenge the alleged killing of his brother, Lokesh, along with his friends, murdered Venkatesh, he said.

Mr. Nanjundaswamy said, soon after committing the crime, the arrested were absconding. They were planning to board a train to Kolkata from Visakhapatnam and later flee to Nepal.
