The five-day Jain Vidvath Sammelan concluded at Shravanabelagola on Thursday with many resolutions including efforts to spread the Jain philosophy by translating texts into other languages, particularly English and Hindi, adopted. Shreyans Kumar Jain, president of the Sammelan, read out the resolution.
Resolutions included reviving Gurukulas and improvising them with the education system, publishing Jain texts, encouraging research in the Jain system of education, working towards setting up centres to study Prakrith in universities among others.
M.A. Jayachandra, author and scholar, in his valedictory address, thanked the Jain mutt and Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamy for organising the event in the run-up to the Mahamastakabhisheka, scheduled for February 2018. The event presented an opportunity to discuss numerous issues concerned with Jain philosophy, he said. He also expressed disappointment that so far no Jain litterateur had been awarded Jnanapeetha, a prestigious literary award, though it has been 50 years since the award was instituted.
Minister for Sericulture and Animal Husbandry A. Manju said the preparations for Mahamastakabhisheka were in full swing. The works would be completed in time, he added. Charukeeti Bhattaraka Swamy felicitated Shreyans Kumar Jain on the occasion. More than 450 scholars from different parts of the country participated in the conference.
