The State government on Monday told the High Court of Karnataka that it has withdrawn five awards given to two Kannada movies — Raaj and Olave Jeevana Lekkachara — for 2009-10 as the nominations on behalf of these movies were submitted after the deadline.
The court had asked the State to take a decision as a petitioner, S. Radha of N.R. Creations, had complained after the announcement of awards in November 2011 that the selection committee had accepted applications despite being filed after the last date.
The awards withdrawn were — best music director (Harikrishna), best editing (Srinivas P. Babu), best playback singer-male (Tippu), and best playback signer-female (Lakshmi Nataraj), all for Raaj ; and best script (Nagathihalli Chandrashekar) for Olave Jeevana Lekkachara .
Following submission of notification dated August 31, 2015 by government counsel, the High Court disposed of the petition.
Anticipatory bail
Justice L. Narayana Swamy on Monday granted interim anticipatory bail for 10 days to Aruna Shyam, an advocate representing Raghaveshwara Bharati seer of Sri Ramachandrapura Math in some cases.
The advocate was accused of allegedly kidnapping and threatening a 25-year-old woman in September last year, in connection with a rape case registered against the seer by another woman in 2014.
In her complaint lodged on Saturday, the 25-year-old woman said that the seer had allegedly raped her twice — in 2006 and 2012. And five of the seer’s followers, including the advocate, had kidnapped her from Bengaluru in September last year, taken her to Shivamogga and threatened her against giving any statement against the seer.
Senior Counsel C.H. Jadhav, who appeared for the advocate, contended that the allegations against the advocate were false.
Fire safety
The court asked the authorities to inspect high-rise buildings to check compliance of fire safety norms issued way back in 2011 by the State government.
A Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice B.V. Nagarathna issued the direction while disposing of a PIL petition filed by Beyond Carlton, a trust. The Bench asked the authorities to carry out the inspection of high-rise buildings as per the norms, issued under Section 13 of the Karnataka Fire Force Act, 1964, on July 7, 2011. These norms were issued by the government after the High Court intervened in the issue of fire safety in high-rise buildings in cities, following complaints made by the petitioner in its earlier PIL petition during 2010.
