A godown storing agricultural equipment was gutted after a fire broke out at around 2 p.m. here on Saturday.
Three Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the godown, located in a commercial area on G.B. Pant Road. They struggled for about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control. The godown belonged to the firm Standard Auto Industrial Traders, which sold products such as rice mill hullers, power tillers, pulleys, oil seals, and other agricultural equipment.
According to Sudheer, a Fire and Emergency Services personnel, there was no ventilation in the godown and there was a lot of smoke, when they arrived on the scene. Although the personnel suspect that a short circuit might have been the cause for the outbreak of fire, the exact reason would be known only after an investigation.
The value of goods damaged in the fire is yet to be estimated, he added.
