Fire at crackers unit kills man

May 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - CHITRADURGA:

One person died and fire crackers, worth Rs. 10 lakh, were destroyed when a fire cracker manufacturing unit caught fire here on Tuesday night. The deceased has been identified as Darshan (24), son of the cracker unit owner Satyanarayan.

According to preliminary investigation, the unit caught fire due to high temperature and lack of ventilation.

Though Mr. Satyanarayan claimed that he had obtained licences for the unit, the officers concerned said that would be known only after verifying the documents, as there was no possibility of issuing permission to a cracker unit in such a congested locality.

The fire was controlled only after a two-and-a-half struggle. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Social Welfare and district in-charge H. Anjaneya visited the spot and expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.
