FIR registered in RGUHS answer script tampering case

Cheating, forgery cases likely against 10 students

October 31, 2014 11:59 am | Updated May 23, 2016 04:58 pm IST - BANGALORE:

The police, who filed a first information report (FIR) in the answer script tampering case in Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) on Thursday, will be booking cases of cheating and forgery against 10 students from seven medical colleges.

The students are accused of tampering with the answer scripts of the 2014 May/June postgraduate exams.

Based on the internal inquiry committee report that identified 19 answer scripts to have been tampered with, RGUHS Registrar (Evaluation) S. Sachidananda filed a complaint with the Tilaknagar police here.

Interestingly, the FIR does not name any RGUHS official. The committee too had not named any official since it found it difficult to ascertain at what stage these answer scripts had been tampered with, a source said, and added that police investigation could throw light on possible involvement of officials in the case.

Dr. Sachidananda said the university was hoping to pinpoint at what stage the tampering took place. He said the entire episode had been an “eye opener” for the university, which had now adopted digitisation and bar-coding of answer scripts.

Earlier this month, the university Syndicate accepted the findings of the inquiry committee.
