Film subsidy: probe report submitted

The Director of the Department of Information has probed into the allegation of corruption in selecting films for the annual subsidy and submitted the report to the government on Monday.

Disclosing this to The Hindu , Secretary, Department of Information, and Kannada and Culture, Basavaraj, who had asked the department's Director K.S. Bevinmarad to probe into the allegation said that he had received the report and the same was forwarded to Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda. Refusing to divulge the findings of the report, he said that it was up to the Chief Minister to take the final decision.

Delegation of producers

Meanwhile, a delegation of film producers met Mr. Sadananda Gowda and urged him to keep the list of films selected by the panel in abeyance. Chairperson of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy Tara also impressed upon Mr. Gowda on the need to withhold the list in the wake of allegations. The delegation also met Commissioner of Police Jyotiprakash Mirji and urged him to order a probe by the Central Crime Branch into the allegation for which Mr. Mirji agreed, producer Ramu said.

But the panel headed by actor Shivaram on Tuesday urged Mr. Gowda to accept the selection of films made by the panel as it had been done in a transparent manner.
