Marginal farmer Jayarame Gowda was found dead in Honnenahalli lake in Nagamangala taluk of Mandya district on Sunday evening.

He was a resident of Lalanakere in Nagamangala taluk.

According to his family members, Mr. Jayarame Gowda had taken loans of several lakhs of rupees from moneylenders for cultivation and other purposes.

He allegedly committed suicide owing to his inability to repay the loan and mounting interests, the Bellur police, quoting his family members, said.

This could be a case of accidental death.

The possibility of Mr. Jayarame Gowda accidentally slipping and drowning in the lake cannot be ruled out, an official at Bellur police station said.

His family members say he had taken loans and was in distress because of his inability to repay them. However, the police said possibility of the man slipping into the lake cannot be ruled out.
